Articles About Entertaiment
The word “entertainment” has many meanings and can refer to any activity that provides pleasure or diversion to the senses. It may also be a way to escape from everyday realities. Activities such as watching movies, playing games, attending concerts, and social gatherings are forms of entertainment. Similarly, solving the daily crossword puzzle is an entertaining pastime for some.
Bates and Ferri (2010) define entertainment as an activity that is understood objectively, communicates from text to audience, involves external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form. The word is derived from the Latin intertenere, which means “to hold inside.” Its Indo-European root is ten, which means to stretch. Hence, the term entertainment often means to extend or exaggerate a theme, image, or structure.
